glaze peeled off due to age. This is a very rare marbled glazed item, it is not easy to find a figure marbled piece. In China, the marbled matrix glazed artwork began in Tang dynasty ( 618-907 AD ) and developed in Song dynasty ( 960-1279 AD ). There were two methods to make the marbled matrix glazed items, one is to mix two different color clays together as the matrix; another one is to make a single color clay matrix first, then paste the mixed clay on its surface. The listing item and the collection of Shanghai Museum were made by the first method. |
