Western Han Dynasty Authentic Dian Kingdom
Origin : China Period & Style : Circa 2nd century BC, Western Han dynasty, Dian Kingdom Yunnan area Material : Bronze hilt, iron body Size & Weight : L. 22.43 in. ( 57 cm ) Condition : No repairs, the inlaid gold logo probably not the original, inlaid lately.
The Dian Kingdom was established by the Dian people, lived around Lake Dian, eastern Yunnan, China from the late Spring and Autumn Period (770-475 BC) until the Eastern Han Dynasty(24-220 AD). The Dian buried their dead in vertical pit graves.
The Dian were first mentioned historically in Sima Qian's Shiji. The Dian
were subjugated by the Han Dynasty under the reign of Emperor Wu of Han in
109 BC. The Han Dynasty incorporated the territory of the Dian Kingdom
into the Yizhou Commandery, but left the King of Dian as the local ruler.
